Don’t go to a Turkish Far Away, go Local!
I might not always be a budget traveler, nor do I travel in luxury. If someone would have to put me in a category I’d consider myself a bit more on the budget side than the luxurious side. The reason? I love simple things! Just basic, small things. Like riding the subway, walking the park, visiting a sanctuary. All of these, almost always free things, beat tourist exploited locations like skyscraper viewdecks (although amazing), hop-on/hop-off buses (take the subway instead) and most exploited of all; large strips of tourist resorts!
I had the opportunity to visit two different kind of resorts. One located in the heart of Phuket Island near the beaches, party strips and temples. The other however, was spend in Antalya, Turkey and was a big downside! Antalya however, you have to visit! But make sure you don’t book a resort, because you’d be in for a surprise; Antalya resorts are located in a kingdom far far away from the locals.
The view might be nice, but all you can see is resorts!
Maybe they do it because tourists tend to get annoying, or maybe because tourists don’t really care. I’ve noticed that people come here just to stay in the sun all week and relax by a pool… Where’s the fun in that? I have a better idea! Take a flight to Turkey, see where the resorts are and spend the night in the nearest city instead! Great Turkey holidays deals can be found online. You can tell all those resort crazed people at home how great the city is you went to, and inspire them to do the same!
My biggest regret from when I went to Turkey was the fact that I was so far away, I never have really experienced Turkey like I should. The food was mass produced for the sheeple in Fort Prison de Resort, and Turkish food is supposed to be really good! Also, it’s overcrowded… There is nothing local!! And I’m all about the local.
The only local thing we've found was this amazing eye! It protects you and the building it's located on from all things bad.
Antalya is high on my wishlist because I feel like I owe something to this place. Of course, you can have a great time in a resort as well, like I did in Thailand. In the end you have to make sure it’s located near a place you can go local. I know some people like to have some luxury around them and that’s good! But don’t deny yourself of the wonderful opportunity to break free as well!
